Are Oils Good for Your Face?

Skincare has completely changed over the years, and facial oils are the new thing. They have been a major part of a lot of people’s skincare today. Many essential oils are available in the market, but not all oils will suit your skin. For instance, several people claim to relish the amazing properties of tea tree oil, but many others complain it does not serve them. Many people also think that they have oily skin, and thus they should not use any facial oil but that isn’t the case. Carrier oils can blend in with the natural oils of your skin and benefit you in several ways.

Here are a few benefits of oils for your face.

Good for Dry Skin

There can be several reasons why your skin is acting dry. It can be because of the hot climate, or you could be using a drying product. Using essential oils combined with carrier oils on your face can improve how your skin looks. However, in winters, your skin can crack. Almond oil is rich in minerals and can be the best for your skin. But, always try a test patch before applying the oil on your entire face.

A little oil before you go to bed will provide the perfect moisturization. Since the oils are natural, it is unlikely that your skin will react to them but not all oils are for all skin types, so do your research.

Can be Used as Makeup Remover

Pure coconut oil or olive oil is the perfect makeup remover. It removes the makeup without being harsh to the skin. Eyes are really sensitive and that is why you need to use something mild to remove your eye makeup. A single drop of coconut oil can easily remove a full face of makeup.

Oils penetrate deep into the skin and lock all the moisture within your skin. They can improve the natural skin barrier of the skin. If you live in a big city, then your skin is exposed to a lot of dust and pollution. In addition to wearing sunscreen, it is important to use oils to improve the skin barrier.

When you use oil on your skin like Jojoba oils and Chamomile, they can deep cleanse and shrink the pores and remove any grime and dust. However, it is important to read about the oil before using it or consult with your dermatologist.

There is a general perception that oils are basically good for your skin but there can also be chances that they don’t agree with your skin. After using oil, if your skin seems extra oily, you can use blotting paper to dab away excess oil.

Do You Think a 7th Grader Should Wear Makeup to School?

There are no set criteria for wearing make up at any certain age. However, there is a difference between doing a full-fledged makeover at a wedding and at school. There’s no second opinion that makeup brings out confidence; however, school is an educational place, and attending it with a full face of makeup is by no means a smart choice. Being a 7th grader, you have delicate skin, and too much makeup can damage it.

Opt for Minimal Makeup

For someone studying in the 7th grade, minimal makeup is ideal if you like to do makeup. You can use a light to medium coverage BB cream, which does not give a cakey look but still makes your skin appear smooth and clear. Makeup for such an age should only be used on a special occasion like a birthday party or going out with friends. Wearing makeup every day has adverse effects on the skin.

Wear Lip Tint/Gloss

One can wear a light color lipstick, a lip tint, or lip gloss to match the mascara and eyeliner. Wearing bold lips will make you look much older than you are. Lip tints are the best solution as these can also act as a cheek tint and can also be used in place of your eyeshade.

Some may also have acne in this phase of life, especially those who have oily skin. Oily skin tends to clog pores and oil and dirt combined then results in pimples. Covering such skin with layers of makeup does worse to skin and the acne may worsen. Rather, one should opt for blotting paper to dab away the excess oil on the skin and then apply a lightweight moisturizer. Tinted moisturizers or sunscreens can also work in your favor.

Use a Good Makeup Remover

If makeup is inevitable, for instance, there’s an annual dinner or sports week at the school; then one should apply light makeup. Always use a gentle makeup remover or cleanser to remove makeup before sleeping. This is highly recommended; if makeup is not removed at night, the skin's aging process becomes fast.

For those 7th graders that have developed a liking for heavy makeup, they should try it once or twice in a blue moon. But do not make a habit out of it. Being a 7th grader, you may not be very young to wear makeup, but depending on it to look good or confident is definitely wrong. Learn to be comfortable in your own skin and face. Wearing makeup definitely adds to the looks, but embrace your skin as it is.

Should I Wear More Makeup?

Wearing makeup is a demand of the world we live in and is now becoming a necessity globally. Not only it enhances features but it also boosts confidence for many. Women belonging to the corporate sector apply it as a part of their job, while university and college goers use makeup out of likeness, and it slowly becomes a part of their routine. Wearing minimal makeup on a daily basis and then removing it before sleeping at night is ideal but wearing heavy makeup takes a toll on your skin. Here are some reasons you should avoid wearing a lot of makeup every day.

Clogged Pores for Oily Skin

Wearing a heavy layer of makeup can clog your pores if you have oily skin. This can lead to acne and breakouts and fast aging of the skin. The skin around your eyes is very sensitive; if it’s covered with layers of makeup, bumps can form around it, and it can also lead to skin irritation. It is ideal to use oil blotting paper which absorbs extra oil and then use minimal makeup.

Premature Age

Several people skip sunscreen before applying makeup as they don’t deem it necessary. However, doing so is harmful as sun rays can damage the skin and catalyze the skin’s aging process and cause age spots. Moreover, using the wrong foundation can accentuate wrinkles.

Dryer or Oilier Skin

Some makeup products can dry out the skin while speeding up the oil-producing process of oily skin. This usually happens when people with dry skin use powdery products while those with oily skin use cream products. Dry skin tends to form flakes or scales on top of the makeup layer, while oily skin becomes shinier after makeup.
So if you like to wear more makeup and are experiencing any of the mention symptoms, it’s time to change your makeup routine.

Remove Makeup

After wearing makeup all day, your skin needs some time to relax and breathe. It is necessary to use a good makeup remover at night, gently remove makeup, or cleanse. For oily skin, double cleansing is considered ideal. It involves removing makeup with an oil-based makeup remover first and then cleanse it.

Clean Your Brushes

Brushes can carry bacteria if they are not regularly cleaned. You need to clean them once a month at least. Wet your brushes and use a good cleanser to build up lather and rinse your brushes thoroughly until all the product is removed from the bristles.

If you have acne or scars and you want to wear more makeup to cover them up, then this is not a permanent solution. Consult a dermatologist, get the proper treatment and let your skin heal and recover naturally.

What is Your Everyday Makeup Routine?

My everyday makeup routine is quite simple and easy. I like to go with minimal makeup since I have oily skin and extra layers of makeup result in irritated skin. So I opt for products that are natural and mild and do not clog pores.
Here is a breakdown of my routine.

Face Cleansing

When I get up in the morning, I cleanse my face and neck with a mild cleanser. This gets rid of any excess oil and dirt on the surface. Follow it with face wash and once a week, I do scrubbing with an organic exfoliator.

Apply Moisturizer and Toner

The first rule of makeup is prepping your skin right. After drying my face, I apply toner and a lightweight moisturizer which is important to balance the skin's pH. Since I have oily skin, I use a water-based moisturizer and the toner I use also has no alcohol or spirit. Alcohol can dry your skin and that will only increase sebum production.

Apply BB Cream

I don’t wear foundation unless I’m attending an event. For everyday use, a BB cream does the job for me. Not only it tints the skin but also makes it appear smooth. I apply one layer of BB cream in dots all over my face and neck and then rub it gently. I leave it on for few minutes to settle in. Tinted sunscreen is also a good option.

Removing Makeup

At night I always remove my makeup before going to bed. I use a light makeup remover and then cleanse my skin. This step is very important for smooth and healthy skin; if not done, the skin will start to age and wrinkle.
One thing I am particular about is keeping things simple. I always try to stay away from extensive skincare or makeup routine as they can be very time-consuming and sometimes damaging for the skin as well.

Blush or Cheek Tint

Once the cream is set, I apply blush or cheek tint to give a flushed look to my face. I do it enough to give a glow and color to my cheeks since too much blush can give a weird and reddish look to your face.

Matt Lipsticks

I am a fan of matt lipsticks, so I apply matt liquid lipsticks as the final step, and I am ready to go. In the end, if my face appears a bit shiny, I dab it away with blotting paper.

Mascara and Eyeliner

Then I curl my lash with a lash curler to add volume to my lashes. I apply 2 coats of mascara to give them a fuller look. I usually apply black eyeliner as it accentuates the eyes and makes them appear big.

Why is My Skin Oily and Flaky at the Same Time?

It is imperative to understand the type of your skin. Many people have dry skin, while others have oily skin, but if you have combination skin, you need to use products that are well suited for it. For example, you may have a combination of dry and oily skin, which means the t-zone would be oily but the areas around the eyes and cheeks would be dry. There can be a few reasons why your skin is acting that way and here are a few reasons mentioned below.

You have a Combination Skin

T-zone is the area around the forehead, nose, and chin; for combination skin, this area is oilier than the rest of the face. This means that you should treat the t-zone differently than the rest of the face. First, apply products that have been formulated for the combination skin.

Not Using the Right Moisturizer

There are different moisturizers for different skin types. If you have combination skin but treat your skin either normally or like oily skin, then naturally, your skin will react to it. You will often see flakes around the temple region or in the cheeks area.

Not Cleansing Correctly

If you have dry skin, then cleansing your skin too often will make it even more dehydrated. When you cleanse your skin too often, the skin will produce more oil to meet the skin's requirements. This will further dry out the skin and leave it flaky. Ideally, you should only cleanse the t-zone if you have combination skin while cleansing the rest of the face once a week.

Not Exfoliating Regularly

Exfoliation is important but over-exfoliation will damage your skin. Apricot scrubs that we have been using for so long are overly harsh on the skin, so stop using that. Use a gentle exfoliant for the facial skin, followed by a moisturizer. This will remove all the flakes and leave your skin soft and nourished.

Not Hydrating Enough

Water is your skin’s best friend. It is recommended to drink between 3-4 liters of water a day. It will change your skin drastically. It will reduce the dryness on the skin as it hydrates the skin. If you can’t consume plain water in this much quantity, try incorporating green tea into your routine. Green tea has antioxidants that reduce the free radicals that can harm the body cells

It takes some time to understand the skin and how it behaves with certain products. Ensure that the products you are using do not contain any harmful chemicals or consult a dermatologist to get the best products for your skin.

What is a Good Full Coverage Foundation for Oily Skin?

If you have oily skin, you are most likely not using a full coverage foundation, which is quite understandable. Using a full coverage foundation will clog the pores more and this will make your skin oilier. However, that is not always true, especially if you pay attention to the constituents of your foundation. You cannot get all the ingredients in one product but choose one that has the most, so it does your skin some good as well.

Salicylic Acid

If you want to clear your skin of blemishes and at the same time control oil production, then use a foundation with salicylic acid. Most of the time, clogged pores and acne are the results of oily skin. Salicylic acid is responsible for unclogging the pores and evening out the skin tone.

Hyaluronic Acid

A full-coverage foundation containing Hyaluronic acid improves the barrier of the skin and keeps the skin hydrated. When your skin lacks hydration, it increases the sebum production to keep the skin from drying out. Strengthening the skin barrier will ensure that the moisture is not absorbed and your skin stays refreshed and less oily.

Vitamin C and E

The foundation must also have antioxidants like Vitamin E and C; these have anti-inflammatory properties that will keep the acne in check. If you have oily skin, you will have occasional breakouts and acne but these can be kept at bay with the right products. Fighting free radicals is essential to keep the skin healthy and free of any acne.

Matte and Semi-matte

Oily skin means that after some time, your skin will have a sheen, or your makeup will smudge, which no one wants. Choosing a matte or semi-matte full coverage foundation means that your skin will look even and no extra shine will appear. To complement this product, you can also use a compact or loose powder to set the foundation in place. Using blotting paper is another way through which you can keep your makeup looking flawless for a long time.

Transfer-free Formula

Since COVID, we wear masks all the time, and most of the time, the foundation transfer to the mask, making it messy and untidy. Choosing a long-lasting, smudge-free formula will ensure that your makeup stays in place. Water-based products are usually better for oily skin and also have better wear than oil-based products. When you use a full-coverage foundation, it is essential that you remove the makeup properly at the end of the day using a mild makeup remover. Keeping your pores unclogged and skin clean will ensure that controlled sebum is produced.
